Having met in ’space rock outfit’ Ozric Tentacles both Merv and Joie were drawn to the electronic sounds of the then early days of the ‘rave’ scene. Legitimately claiming to be one of the UK’s first live techno outfits they always intended on being just that – a live act!

In musical terms, Iceland is probably still best known for its 1980s export, the Sugarcubes, featuring pop oddity Bjork. In recent years, Sigur Rós (pronounced See’er Rose) have been adding their name to the list of famous Icelandic exports with their freaky trip rock featuring songs with lyrics comprised of a language they made up themselves.



Rue Royale

‘Shelly’, along with their kick drum, shakers and guitar resulted from a decision to jack in the ‘normal’ life and become a full-time band. Married couple Ruth & Brookln Dekker moved out, sold up and hit the road. That was back just in March 2008. They forged forward scheduling a 20 date European tour which boasted sell out concerts in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

we are soldiers we have guns is Malin Dahlberg a Gothenburg (Sweden) resident. With help from an assortment of musical friends, she has developed bitter sweet melancholic indie-pop sound. The debut album ‘get up, get out’ was recorded late 2007.

Raftside (Filip Markiewicz) was born in 1980. He started his solo career as Raftside at 19 years, recording his first demo-tape at the age of 20.



Minipli win place at PdB Festival?

Rumours are rife that Luxembourg band Minipli have fought off the competition for selection to showcase at the Printemps de Bourges Festival in, well Bourge (France), this coming [soon I hope] spring. Awaiting ‘official’ confirmation – but dont’ say you didn’t hear it first!

Modeselektor are a music duo hailing from Berlin. They are the sort of group that gets muso journalists grammatically salivating and waxing ‘choice word’ lyrical. In addition, they’ve got Thom Yorke’s vocal admission as a fan club member.



Dj Spooky

Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky was born in 1970 in Washington DC, to academic parents. Following his college years spent amidst the ‘whispering pines’ of Bowdoin College, Main, and having picked up degrees in French literature and philosophy, Spooky began writing science fiction. In the mid-nineties he began his recording career with a series of singles and the ’96 album, ‘Songs of a Dead Dreamer’.
