Mercury Rev’s Snowflake Midnight

According to the BBC review there is this seriously off putting ‘blah’ ”bursting with patterns and mandala-like forms… blown apart by their own majestic desire to share themselves, spirals of new momentum inter-twingling with the vastness of limitless new creation…” to be found at the forefront of this new albums description.
I thoroughly admit I would have not been prepared for such a grand statement in artistic pretention; the sort Art Fags crave! And yes, admittedly, I would have been put off and might have even developed an ill advised presumption on what to expect. So just as well I didn’t eh!
I treasure Mercury Rev as a band that produces – and ‘Snowflake Midnight’, despite it’s somewhat flaky name – doesn’t disappoint. I won’t get all flowery on your arse about the cinematic – sumptuous – soundscapes as found in the numerous reviews on the bands website. Ultimately they’re saying what I wanted to say – albeit perhaps with a bit more saliva – unfortunately I’ve a deadline pending in about an hour!
But, so you know, it’s now out there and there is also a FREE download in the shape of ‘Strange Attractor’ – which you’ll receive in exchange for your email address. That’s one for you electronic heads! Enjoy!
